Las figuras femeninas de mi familia influyeron profundamente en mi infancia y moldearon, en gran parte, al adulto en el que más tarde me convertí. Mi madre estuvo siempre muy unida a sus seis hermanas, por lo que nuestra casa solía estar llena de mujeres. Dicen que los niños aprenden más de lo que ven que de lo que se les dice, y yo aprendí a guisar ayudándolas en la cocina, a escuchar sin juzgar, a observar con atención. Crecí admirando la independencia y la seguridad con la que se desenvolvían en todo tipo de situaciones, y entendí algo que más tarde intenté plasmar en mis obras: que la sensibilidad no es fragilidad, sino una forma poderosa de estar en el mundo.
Estos retratos de mis tías son mi humilde homenaje a esa fuerza silenciosa, luminosa y transformadora.

The female figures in my family had a profound influence on my childhood and shaped, to a great extent, the adult I later became. My mother was always very close to her six sisters, so our home was often filled with women. They say children learn more from what they see than from what they’re told, and I learned to cook by helping them in the kitchen, to listen without judgement, to observe with care. I grew up admiring the independence and confidence with which they handled all kinds of situations, and I came to understand something I later tried to reflect in my work: that sensitivity is not weakness, but a powerful way of being in the world.
These portraits of my aunts are my humble tribute to that silent, radiant, and transformative strength.
